For the person who runs it
One place instead of two.
You are running a WhatsApp group for the talking and a Facebook group for the telling, and half the members are only in one of them. That is not a people problem. It is two apps that were never going to add up.
What running a group across two apps costs
Every organiser of every club knows this list without being told.
- Announcements drown. The one message that matters sits between forty about parking.
- You post everything twice, and the second one is always the one you forget.
- Nobody is in both. The people who need telling are reliably in the group you did not post to.
- Leaving is not really leaving, and adding somebody means adding them in two places and remembering both.
How Rindit is shaped
A community is one thing with parts.
An announcement channel everybody is in
You post, everybody gets it, and it does not turn into a conversation underneath. Up to 512 people, and nobody has to opt in to hearing the thing that actually matters.
Group chats for the parts that talk
Up to 50 groups under one community — the committee, the Thursday session, the lift-share — each up to 100 people, each with its own admins, invite link and pinned message. Membership stays in step with the community, so adding somebody is one action rather than six.
A feed for the things that can wait
Photographs from Saturday, the results, the thing somebody wants to show everyone. It does not interrupt anybody, which is exactly why it does not belong in the chat.
The part that matters if your group is private
Turn on encryption for any group and the conversation is sealed on the devices in it. That is unusual: most messengers that offer encryption offer it one-to-one only, so the group chat — the one with everybody's plans and addresses and photographs of their children in it — is the part that is not protected.
And when somebody leaves, the key changes. What the group says afterwards is not readable to them. For a group that has ever had to remove somebody, that is the difference between a rule and a guarantee.
Moving a group without losing half of it
The reason group migrations fail is never the software. It is that somebody has to be told twice and one person never gets told at all.
- An invite link you can paste into the group you are leaving, that anybody can use to join.
- Join requests, so a public link does not mean an open door.
- Admins and roles, so it does not all rest on you being awake.
- A pinned message for the thing new arrivals always ask.
The limits, said plainly
These are the real numbers, not a starting point that quietly changes.
| Thing | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| People in a group | 100 | The bound is what keeps delivery fast for everyone in it. |
| Groups in a community | 50 | Each with its own membership and admins. |
| People in an announcement channel | 512 | One-way, so it stays readable. |
| Pinned messages | 5 | Per conversation. |
| Photo upload | 16 MB | 100 MB for video, 32 MB for audio. |
These are the limits for everybody. There is no paid tier that raises them — Rindit is free, and a group of a hundred is a group of a hundred whoever is running it.
